Frances is mother of two and a Certified Pilates Matwork Instructor. Frances considers herself an active tomboy, but that changed after the birth of her 2 beautiful children due to Post Partum Thyroiditis. Improving her health with the positive and encouraging support, she loves to share the importance of exercise for well being with others. She loves a variety of sports and exercises classes and hopes to share her passion for an active life with others especially women. Hoping to promote the importance of taking care of yourself in order to give the best of yourself to those you love.
We have moved to a new location in Wamberal. I hope that everyone likes it and please don't hesitate to give any feedback regarding our new location.
I need to say a very big Thank You to Back-fit Clinics (our previous location) and hope their new location in the Hunter Valley works out well.
Back-fit was a great place to share my passion for self-care through movement via the Pilates Method of exercise. But it was also a great place for me personally, as I received much needed support for my overall health.
I am very thankful for ALL of the dedicated people that have helped me manage my health over the years.
I have needed support due to my Auto-Immune Illness. This left me weak and lethargic after my second child. Exercise and a variety of other support from Doctors and Allied Health Professionals have been ESSENTIAL in managing and improving my Auto-Immune Illness.
Exercise is my favourite Medicine and I highly recommend it!! Getting back on your feet and feeling strong again is so wonderful. Being able to get back into life and the activities I love means so much and I am forever grateful for the wonderful support. Improving your health does take time and patience with yourself. Having an Auto-Immune Illness is a roller coaster ride but having positive and encouraging support is so beneficial. I hope that I can share the many good things I have learned with my clients from all of the support and guidance I have received.
Also thank you to my clients, sharing my passion for self care through exercise is so important for many reasons! Thank you for your patience and understanding with the location changes.

To Love You
Let’s be honest love is the greatest thing on earth. Listen to the radio what is nearly every song about, Love! Love felt, love shared, loved missed, love lost or love of self. It is the most powerful emotion over everything we have.
So I wish to write about it, share my experiences and hope to inspire you to love yourself.
There was a moment in time that I needed to recognise the harsh thoughts and feelings I had towards myself. The constant thought “I am not good enough” played in my brain like a broken record, even when I wasn’t fully aware of it. But I have had lots of positive support and love in my life to work through this and hope to share with others what I have learnt.
I remember the moment that these feelings finally caused me to really crack. It was February 2011 and there was a mix of emotions going on inside of me that I hadn’t even realised. I finally recognised them, and processed them with tears and poetry that turned into songs (that I recorded a couple of years later). Self-awareness is not always obvious until you get to that crunch point and finally wake up to yourself. The self-criticism record was always playing in my mind, no matter what anyone else said.
But what I was also thinking, was the wrong belief that I had to be perfect and that my body had to be perfect and that I should not make a mistake. An internal perfectionist, that pushed myself to limits physically and weakened myself mentally.
I was training with my gorgeous girlfriend and loving every minute, but there came a time where I placed this strange high unrealistic standard on myself. This was dangerous as a have a thyroid issue and need to have a balanced view of exercise. In saying this I am very thankful for as a child and adult my mum has always encouraged good traditional eating to care and nourish the body. My Dad is the same. I have never seen my parents use any medicines other than absolute necessary. A healthy diet was advocated as a child and the message was clear to eat to cherish and care for my body and for enjoyment. But even with the wonderful viewpoint of food, the pressure that we can have was there. I remember being 11 and looking in the mirror and criticising my hip shape. So thankful my mum instilled healthy eating. As I definitely have a love for food.
The scary thing is I thought that this was just an issue for girls. But the truth is, it is affecting boys too. I realise as a parent I need to be careful on what I say about my own body, and focus on being healthy and active.
So to be balanced is an ongoing process. To be aware of pushing our bodies too far is so crucial. In a world where beautiful air brushed bodies are presented to us every day, we can feel this unrealistic pressure that can lead to unhealthy habits. Love your body, love yourself, have the self-respect to make time for exercise for the right reasons! This personal experience is one of the reasons behind starting Body Harmony Pilates. Whilst exercise has helped me manage Back Pain and improve my Thyroid Health, I also need to share the importance of balance, and self care! To love you is so important. I am excited to be offering a free Pilates Matwork class inside Lorna Jane Erina on Wednesday the 15th April at 6pm. The class will also include the use of small equipment such as resistance bands and the small Pilates ball. Pilates on the Central Coast is growing rapidly. Why? As people worldwide are realising the benefits, including lots of celebrities, claiming their toned figures are from Pilates. Why I love Pilates!!!
It would be some 15 years ago that I attended my first Pilates class. My girlfriend had suggested we go and give it a try. It was challenging, even overwhelming. But I was impressed, especially with the emphasis on posture as the Pilates instructor cued “ imagine there is string coming from the crown of you head”.
Listen to Your Body
Another saying I love! It makes sense. Listen to YOUR Body. We are the only ones that really know how our body is feeling after exercise or food. Make note of what makes you feel great. We live in a world of so many conflicting opinions, don’t do this, don’t eat that, etc. It seems there is a war of opinions, egos, diets and information. When we turn it around and starting noticing what makes us feel good, it will reinforce the actions that are right for us.
Many of us commit to exercise so that we can still fit into our favourite pair of jeans. I know that definately motivates me. But over the last 8 years, exercise has meant a great deal more.
As a child, teenager and adult it was always for the pure enjoyment and adventure. After my children, exercise became my medicine. My thyroid health issues were no surprise as it is a common issue in my family. I took the time to read Thyroid Health by Dr. Sandra Cabot. Whilst I do not believe in self diagnosis, and always consult with my Doctor regarding health issues. I found lots of tips in that book to help with my health. The obvious ones are to eat fresh fruit and veges, and drink lots of water.
How easy is it to neglect our bodies? We are busy with work, family, and careers. It is usually not until a major event occurs that some of us make a change. How about changing before that moment, and valuing your body and your health. It is hard to make time for maintaining our strength and fitness. Though it is definately worth investing time into our health. Having personally experienced poor health, and slowly and steadily improving, enjoying exercise and life's adventures is definately worth the effort. Not just for me, but for my family as well.
