Pilates on the Central Coast
Pilates on the Central Coast is growing rapidly. Why? As people worldwide are realising the benefits, including lots of celebrities, claiming their toned figures are from Pilates. But what are the benefits? Why try Pilates? From my point of view there are some really important exercises and principles that Pilates incorporates that are so beneficial, these are some of them:
- Pilates helps strengthen the Pelvic Floor.
This simple exercise seems to be overlooked, but from my viewpoint and feedback from clients is so so important. Please do not overlook learning how to do this important exercise correctly. Even fit, active people need this one. If you attend a Body Harmony Pilates class for the first time please arrive 10-15 minutes early to ensure you are comfortable and confident with this essential exercise.
- Pilates helps strengthen the deep abdominal muscles.
We have 4 layers of abdominal muscles, the well known 6 pack muscles are very popular to work and make look good. But that tummy won't be toned and flat without correct activation of the deep abdominal muscles (and a healthy diet of course). I love the detail that Pilates goes to ensure we engage these muscles.
- Stretch and Reach for the Stars
Corny saying I know. But stretching has been an essential element for the health and maintenance of my own back aches and pain. I love stretching. Sometimes when I am feeling a little too tired for a good workout, it's timeout for me on the mat for some gentle stretches, it still amazes me how much better my body feels. I encourage stretching daily! Body Harmony Pilates classes incorporate stretching throughout.
- Body Awareness
As we exercise more and have instructors that want us to benefit not just in class but in everyday life, we develop a great body awareness. I believe it's important to understand the muscles we are trying to target with different movements. That way ensure we are activating the right muscles and we become more aware, gaining real benefits from that exercise.
- Pilates improves POSTURE
With body awareness and a highlight on good posture, Pilates can help us in everyday life. Sitting is now regarded as the new smoking in regards to becoming a serious health hazard. But becoming aware of our day to day posture can help improve any aches and pains we may be suffering from, combined with regular Pilates exercises we can really feel the benefits in everyday life.
- Strengthens Weak Muscles
We all have our own individual strengths and weaknesses. Pilates focuses on regaining strength where we are weak, one common area being the buttock muscles. So Buttock squeezes everyone, apparently Kylie Minogue and Miranda Kerr do these regularly.
- All Over Body Strength
Pilates will strengthen your whole body. Abs, butts, back, arms, legs. Using equipment such as the Swiss Ball, Pilates Circle and Resistance Bands we can strengthen the whole body for a healthy strong body.
- Relax with Tension Release
Pilates incorporates breathing that I personally use in everyday life, whenever I am feeling a little stressed or anxious. In through the nose and out through the mouth filling up and emptying the lungs. The benefits are immediate. I also love to encourage clients to use the foam roller in class as much as possible as this also provides a wonderful tension release.
- Time for you
As a parent and partner I love to give of myself to my family. But there are times when it becomes tiring, especially with active young children. I have learnt the hard way, that giving of myself 100% is only possible if I make the time to recharge my own batteries. Pilates is one way that I do this. This is one of the main reasons I am so passionate about encouraging exercise. Mindfulness is also becoming a popular term in health and wellness circles, and I believe Pilates is an exercise that uses this as your mind really needs to be aware of what part of the body you are strengthening or stretching.
So this is just some of the benefits. Wherever you live on the Central Coast, give Pilates ago. Pilates is best done on a regular basis, to really feel and see the benefits. Always listen to your body. Do not continue with an exercise if it causes pain. It's extremely important to have good communication with your instructor in any form of exercise class or private session. Love your body!
