Love Your Body
Love your body with regular exercise. Exercise is preventative medicine! Stretch and Strengthen regularly with Pilates.
Why Exercise is so important to me...
Many of us commit to exercise so that we can still fit into our favourite pair of jeans. I know that definately motivates me. But over the last 8 years, exercise has meant a great deal more.
As a child, teenager and adult it was always for the pure enjoyment and adventure. After my children, exercise became my medicine. My thyroid health issues were no surprise as it is a common issue in my family. I took the time to read Thyroid Health by Dr. Sandra Cabot. Whilst I do not believe in self diagnosis, and always consult with my Doctor regarding health issues. I found lots of tips in that book to help with my health. The obvious ones are to eat fresh fruit and veges, and drink lots of water.
There were also suggestions regarding vitamins and other supplements that I have found beneficial as well (also discussed with my Doctor). Though what I really love about that particular book is the mention of 30 minutes of daily exercise to help the immune system. That is why exercise is so important to me now that i have past the 40 year old mark of life. Of course it is still fun and enjoyable, but it is just as important as eating my fruit and veges, and taking my supplements. My health declined in my early 30's. Sometimes we can just sit there and think oh well, that's the way it goes. Or we can slowly, with the right support from friends and health professionals, improve our health.
Not only is exercise so beneficial for the immune system, but as most of us know the mind. Exercise is a great stress release. It's just nice to be reminded of this. Sometimes we don't know how to sort a problem out, but taking time for a walk or a bike ride, or some stretching, just releases the stress, and before you know it, a solution to the problem comes to mind. Well that's how it works for me (most of the time). I particularly love Pilates because it involves the mind. You need to focus on which muscles you are working and incorporate deep breathing, and it is my little escape from my worries and stress. I often feel relaxed after a Pilates session, because my mind and body have worked together. The movement has allowed tension to release.
I know that this information is nothing new to most of us. But sometimes we need reminders and motivation as to why we need to schedule in some daily exercise. Even when I am tired, I still try and do some stretches, and feel so much better for it. So I hope you can make the time to love your body from the inside out with some daily exercise! A saying I love is "If exercise was a medicine, it would be the most prescribed medicine in the world" .
PS. This week is the last Wednesday 6.30am Pilates Matwork class for 2014. We will recommence classes from 2 February 2015.
